Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov declared Tuesday that restoring the cooperation between Bulgarian and UK intelligence services was a major success.

“I was told directly that a year before the July 2009 elections, the British secret services declared they did not want to work with the Bulgarian intelligence until some sort of order is introduced. Ex PM Stanishev was warned about that,” Borisov told Nova TV Tuesday morning as he returned from his UK visit Monday night.

“Bulgaria has the prerequisites to host several powerful intelligence centers which would fight organized crime and drug trafficking in the entire Balkan Peninsula,” he stated.

The PM pointed out he was happy about the future UK investment – the building of an electric car plant in Stara Zagora. He stated again that UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown had backed Bulgaria in its aspirations to join the Eurozone, and that Great Britain had declared its support for the Nabucco gas transit pipeline.

Borisov said he heard the expression “Congratulations, Borisov” (last week he stated that even though he did not speak English he always watched out for this expression) several times – for the achievements of his government of reforming the secret services, and for keeping the budget deficit under 3%.

“Both major UK parties accepted our demands that Bulgarians should be granted free access to the UK labor market. We are going to try to get lifted the ban on Bulgarian laborers,” Borisov said.
