Viktor Yanukovich was leading the second round of Ukraine's presidential election according to the initial exit poll after several hours of voting.

Yanukovich had received about 55% of the vote, with rival Yulia Tymoshenko trailing at 40%, according to Moscow radio.

The poll indicated that more than 66% of those eligible to vote in Kyiv cast their vote in favor of Tymoshenko, whereas in Crimea, over 80% chose Yanukovich.

Ukraine’s Central Electoral Commission has estimated voter turnout to have been 17,48% by 11:00 local time.

Polling Stations are to remain open until 8 pm local time, with initial results expected soon after.

There have been several cases of disruption to the presidential vote on Sunday. Unidentified men threw a smoke candle and leaflets with a call not to support any of the presidential candidates near the front door of polling station No.32 in Pecherskyi district of Kyiv.

In a separate incident, several topless women barged into a Ukrainian polling station, rowdily protesting before Viktor Yanukovich his ballot.

The women, members of a small feminist group called Femen known for staging eye-catching protests, were hustled out of the Kiev polling station by security guards before the candidate turned up to vote.

The women told reporters they were protesting "the end of democracy" in Ukraine and not specifically against Yanukovich or in favour of his rival, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Alexander Turchinov, Yulia Tymoshenko's presidential campaign chief, had earlier claimed that supporters of rival candidate Viktor Yanukovych killed a Tymoshenko official at a polling station in Ivano-Frankivsk. A death has been confirmed by police, but the cause of death remained under investigation.

Police have confiscated 40 pens from 17 polling stations in the Kyiv region, the Interior Ministry has announced, adding that the pens contained "disappearing ink".
