Bulgaria’s EU Commissioner-Designate Kristalina Georgieva is going to quit her job as World Bank Vice-President on February 8, a day before the EP vote on the new Commission.
Speaking at a press briefing after her hearing at the EP Development Committee Wednesday, Bulgaria’s designate was congratulated by European journalists on her performance. She described the hearing as very interesting and dynamic.
“I feel that this Committee is one that will be very helpful in my future role, and the quality of the discussion was very high,” Georgieva stated.
She made it clear that her top priority upon assuming her EC job would be Haiti, i.e. continuing to deliver assistance to the earthquake-devastated nation, and then working with the Development Commissioner to link relief and reconstruction aid to long-term development.
The final decision of the confirmation of Bulgaria’s Georgieva as the new EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid will be delivered by the coordinators of the EP Development Committee at 4:30 pm Brussels time.
