Plovdiv District Court has ordered the permanent detention in custody of Nikolay Prodanov, who is wanted in the US for sexual assault on mentally impaired women.

An arrest warrant was served on 61-year-old Prodanov on July 8 2009 by a US court in Wisconsin over sexual offenses in 2006, Radio Plovdiv reported.

The documents required to initiate extradition proceedings against Prodanov have already been received from judicial authorities in the US and the Plovdiv Court is set to study the request next week.

The ruling is open to appeal, but there were no immediate reports of an appeal being lodged by Prodanov’s attorney.
