Boyko Borisov Votes with a Paper Ballot: Is there a Functioning Machine, or Have They Run Out?
Boyko Borisov chose to cast his vote with a paper ballot in Bankya today.
Bulgarian Socialist Party International Secretary, Denitza Zlateva, has called on Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov to sack EU Comissioner-Designate Rumiana Jeleva as Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Zlateva, speaking in Varan, stated that Jeleva’s pefermance in the EU Commission hearing on Tuesday showed that she was ignorant of the foreign affairs subject. She added that a Foreign Minister can not show such incompetence in international issues and therefore is not appropriate to hold this post.
Meanwhile, BSP leader, Sergey Stanishev, has stated that EU Commissioner-Designate Rumiana Jeleva’s level of competence is level to the incompetence of the whole Bulgarian center-right GERB government.
Stanishev said Saturday that the whole responsibility for the current situation with Jeleva lies squarely on the shoulders of Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov. “There was no debate in Bulgaria as to who should be the EU Commissioner for Bulgaria,” he added.
Stanishev continued that if another candidate had been chosen Bulgaria would have had a chance to get a much more important post – even the position as Deputy-Chair of the EU Commission.
In conclusion Stanishev added that most of the Ministers in the current government would have faced the same conflict of interests scandal if they had been involved in the EU Commission hearing.
Jeleva has been subject to extensive speculation concerning alleged conflict of interests and allegations of being the weakest link in the new EU executive, since her hearing last Tuesday, which included a heated argument with Bulgarian liberal MEP Antoniya Parvanova.
