MP Irena Sokolova, from the governing center-right GERB party, was hit by a drunk driver Wednesday evening, while crossing the road with her daughter in Pernik.

Local police reported that the incident happened at 18:30 as Sokolova and her daughter were on a pedestrian crossing near the center of Pernik.

Sokolova was slightly injured and taken to Pernik Hospital for a check up. Her daughter was not injured in the incident.

The driver that knocked Sokolova to the ground fled the scene but was arrested 20 minutes after the incident with 1,47 promils of alcohol in her blood.
