Serbian President Boris Tadic stated Wednesday that Kosovo should become part of the EU but as an integral part of Serbia.
Tadic made this declaration during the celebration of the Orthodox Christmas in the Visoki Decani Monastery in Western Kosovo, as cited by BGNES
He said he hoped to see all states from Southeast Europe become EU members in 2014. As a gesture to the overwhelmingly Albanian population of Kosovo, Tadic has uttered a new year greeting in Albanian.
The Republic of Kosovo broke away from Serbia in February 2008. Serbia has not recognized its independence, and has supported the parallel government structures of the 100 000 Serbian minority in Northern Kosovo.
Kosovo’s independence has been recognized by 22 of the 27 EU member states with the notable exceptions of Spain, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, and Cyprus.
