US Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, said there was no indication so that the alleged and failed terror attack on a US airplane was part of a broad international effort.

"Right now we have no indication that it is part of anything larger," Napolitano told CNN's "State of the Union" program.

The Homeland Security Secretary did not confirm earlier information that 23-year-old Nigerian Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab is connected to al-Qaeda, saying it was too early to make such conclusions.

The Nigerian is charged with attempt to destroy an US airliner, bringing explosives onboard and attempting to blow up the plane.
