Nigeria has started to investigate the terrorist attack against a US passenger jet attempted by 23-year-old Nigerian named Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab.

Mutallab has tried to set off an incendiary device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Friday. His terrorist attempt has been foiled by passengers on board.

The man, who is an engineering student in the UK, has been reported to have boarded a plane in Nigeria to Holland, and them to Detroit. A suspected link to Al Qaeda claimed by the perpetrator is being investigated.

The Nigerian Minister of Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili, has issued a communiqué promising to cooperate with the USA in the investigation of the terrorist attempt.
