The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced the successful test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday.
"On December 24, 2009 at 9.30 am Moscow time (8.30 am Bulgarian time), the Strategic Rocket Forces of the Russian Federation launched an intercontinental ballistic missile RS-20B "Voevoda" from a strategic military base in the Orenburg Province," a defense spokesman said.
The test was part of a technical program to assess the flight characteristics of the Voevoda design. The Orenburg base is some 1 500 kms south east of Moscow, near the border with Kazakhstan.
