An expert with experience in Sarkozy administration, who recently served as foreign policy councilor to the Bulgarian prime minister, has been appointed the country's consul in New York, according to reports.
The appointment of Radoslav Tochev as Bulgaria's new consul in New York has been approved by the government last Wednesday, Sega daily reported.
Tochev gained popularity as the first Bulgarian to graduate the prestigious Paris National School of Administration. He has experience as councilor to the current French President Nicolas Sarkozy during his term as Economy, Finance and Industry Minister.
Radoslav Tochev, part of the team of experts of GERB party, was nominated as a candidate for MEP in the European elections in 2007, but withdrew his candidature following a car crash that killed one.
Days before being ousted out of office, the previous Socialist-led government slated former MEP Atanas Paparizov for Bulgaria's Consul in New York, but the new center-right government halted the diplomatic appointment.
