Bulgaria: DPS Nominates Elena Yoncheva for MEP
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in Blagoevgrad has nominated Elena Yoncheva as a candidate for the European Parliament, sparking intense debate and speculation
Former Bulgaria PM and Bulgarian Socialist Party Leader, Sergey Stanishev, has praised the partnership he formed with the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party.
Stanishev, speaking as a guest at the DPS national party conference said that relations between the BSP and the DPS over the past 20 years went through various stages of denial and mutual repulsion, before reaching a real partnership in a common government coalition at the national level and in local government.
He added that he have nothing to be ashamed of during his term as PM term and that the partnership between the two parties will continue in the future.
Stanishev concluded; "In recent years, it was very popular to earn dividends on the back of the DPS, to the boost ratings. I have always had the view that this is frivolous and a dangerous policy to gain short-term dividends.”
Earlier Saturday DPS party leader, Ahmed Dogan, gave a sign that he is set to resign from his post.
