Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov has stated that the center-right GERB government will prepare a a common strategy on energy issues.
Borisov, speaking at a government roundtable event in Sofia, said the decision to prepare the energy strategy had been taken after discussions with the Advisory Council on Energy at the Council of Ministers and was in line with President Georgi Parvanov’s energy plans.
Borisov added that the Burgas-Alexandroupolis gas pipeline project would only go ahead if the Ministry of Environment and Water issued a positive assessment of its impact on the environment. This could take up to 18 months, he concluded.
He stressed that although the signed agreements have no pull out clauses nothing will be built in Bulgaria if it will harm the environment.
Russia Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko, who will attend the talks, said last week “I think we will have problems,” regarding the Burgas–Alexandroupolis oil pipeline prospects.
