The beating suffered by Bulgarian actress and model Desi Zidarova was very severe, but the reasons for the Saturday evening attack remain unclear.
"I saw her at the hospital last night for a very short time, they had beaten her severely with bats on the legs, she lost consciousness for a while and does not remember what exactly happened", Martin Raikov, Zidarova’s PR agent, said on Monday.
Zidarova was attacked by two men around 9 pm on Saturday night in Sofia’s Lozenets quarter, after leaving her hairdressing salon together with her colleague, hairdresser Miro. She was beaten up, and the attackers snatched her handbag.
The police now suspect that the taking of the handbag was a pretext to hide the true reason behind the assault, which was to inflict physical damage on the actress.
“We think there is some other intention that was directed entirely and only towards Desi Zidarova. My colleagues are working very hard on the case, we're also looking for any close connections of hers who would on personal grounds assault her," Tzvetan Tzvetanov, the Minister of Interior, commented on radio.
Zidarova was admitted to Sofia's Pirogov hospital immediately after the attack, where she was diagosed as suffering broken ribs and injuries to her subcostal region.
