Bulgaria's outgoing European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva has given indications that she may run for the presidency, as suggested by her party fellows.
“I am really flattered, flattered to tears, but I am not sure that we should be talking about future posts now. We should be acting today, not tomorrow. I myself am not thinking about posts,” Meglena Kuneva told local PRO.BG TV channel on Monday.
“I would rather work with the current president and prime minister, than think about my life in two years' time, when someone may nominate me for president of the republic,” Kuneva said.
The comment came a week after key figures from the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity of former Tsar Saxe-Coburg declared Meglena Kuneva to be very suitable for the position of President or Prime Minister.
During a party meeting in the southern city of Kardzhali last Sunday, two of the contenders to chair the centrist party after Saxe-Coburg’s stepping down over the staggering loss of the July general elections, Hristina Hristova and Nikolay Vasilev, made it clear that Kuneva was a great asset of the party, and that her political career could continue successfully after she is done being a EU Commissioner.
