The Bulgarian Members of the Parliament from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) say they are disappointed with the responsibilities assigned to Bulgaria's new EU Commissioner, Rumiana Jeleva.

They say that they do not deem the International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response portfolio a priority in European politics despite Bulgaria's experience in creating institutions that deal with disasters and emergencies.

The Bulgarian socialists MEPs say they consider the portfolios of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, and Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy as the most important ones.

The group, however, approves in general of the new Commission and the Commissioners-designate, and voices their satisfaction the socialists are well represented.

The Bulgarian S&D MEPs applaud all governments of the other new EU Members States that have proven they can nominate prepared and competent people to undertake some of the most important EC portfolios.

I am very happy with her portfolio. She will not be able to do too much damage to the EU and she can't steal too much. She would have to be a real cold-hearted bitch to steal from the disaster relief fund. However, if there are no disasters to be funded, then expect that fund to be emptied out by the end of her term.

Disgusting BSP comments. The only reason why the post is on "the lower side", is because the BSP has prostituted theirselves with corruption, manipulated justice, mafia practices. Mr. Stanishev and Mr. Parvanov know this very well. They should be ashamed for alowing the stealing from Europe. And their window dressing with Mrs. Plugchieva was arrogant, as of Brussels would get away with it!

What I find is disgusting is not only the arrogance to say that Jeleva's responsibilty in the new commission is the least important (I wouldn't call the International Relations and the responsibility for EuropeAid unimportant), it is equally disgusting how the whole matter was handled by Jeleva.

She has so far proved that she is very incompetent in her field as a Foreign Minister, as can be seen from many of her statements. It shows an amazing lack of self-reflection that she was asking for a much more 'important' position in the commission.

She first of all forgot that she has sworn to fulfill her task as a minister to the benefit of Bulgaria. But she was using this position only as a short term waiting lounge for a much better paid position.

Furthermore she is obviously lacking the abilities necessary to handle such a responsible position. As an EU commissioner she can do even much more harm as a result of her obvious incompetence. Compared to her, Kuneva was an excellent expert due to her involvement in the EU accession negotiations of Bulgaria. She performed comparatively well. As for Jeleva, I expect a complete failure from her. Anything else would surprise me a lot.
