Bulgaria’s Besieged Ambassador to US Cries Toothache in Failure to Visit MPs: Toothache Halts Bulgaria Beseiged Ambassador to US from Showing up at Parliament

The controversial Bulgarian Ambassador to the US, Lachezar Petkov, failed to honor an invitation to come to the Parliament over his aching teeth.

Petkov was supposed to show up for a hearing before the temporary Parliamentary Committee probing signals for violations at the Embassy in Washington DC during the July general elections.

The dentist’s note was presented to the Members of the Parliament (MPs) by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Foreign Ministry. It is dated November 20th.

The Committee was, however, able to hear the Chair of the Central Electoral Commission (CEK), Svetla Dimitrov. Dimitrov stated CEK is yet to receive part of the ballots, pointing out the Commission is not an investigative authority and they did not compare results, but just registered them. The CEK Chair is adamant CEK did not loose any ballots.

The ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party wants Petkov’s recall over violations during the general elections in July 2009. The President, Georgi Parvanov, returned the request to the cabinet and has not signed it as of Wednesday.
