The EC announced they made a surprise probe Tuesday of the Czech offices of the power utility CEZ.
The information was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
The reason for the European Commission's probe stems from suspicions the company, on its own, or together with other businesses, has committed serious violations of the European competition laws that increased the CEZ dominance on the electric power market in the Czech republic.
The EC representatives have been accompanied by local members of the Czech competition watchdog.
The surprise checkups are the first step of the EC probes of practices violating competition laws. EC points out they do not automatically mean the company involved is guilty, just that they are trying to verify alleged breach of law.
