Five Bulgarian men were left in jail Friday on charges they were part of an organized crime group which stole credit card data from citizens of Poland and Austria.

The Plovdiv District Court ruled that the five men must remain behind bars. They are accused of being a part of the group which operated in Poland and Austria between August and November 2009. Three of the five men have conviction records.

Three other Bulgarian members of the group have been detained in Poland (earlier police statements said 6 men were arrested in Bulgaria and 2 in Poland) Tuesday in a joint operation of EUROPOL, and the police authorities in Austria, Bulgaria, and Poland.

Most of the men have university degrees in engineering. The “brain” of the whole group is the 37-year-old Petar Nanov from Plovdiv. It is still unclear how much money the group managed to steal.
