The Sofia Municipality was convicted by two courts over a case where stray dogs attacked a woman in downtown Sofia.
The incident happened in the summer of 2008 when 28-year-old Ognyana Madzharova was bitten by a dog from a homeless pack while walking home in the evening. The woman was taken to the emergency “Pirogov” hospital in Sofia and had stitches on two deep wounds on her leg.
Madzharovava later filed suit against the City Hall. The Sofia Administrative Court ruled that the reason for the incident was the inactivity of the municipal administration and their inability to solve the problem. The verdict had been confirmed by the Supreme Administrative Court on November 5.
Madzharova will receive BGN 2 000 as compensation and BGN 161 as reimbursement for her emergency treatment. She says she want people to know that they need to be proactive and defend their rights.
