The Greek government has decided to offer a prize of EUR 1 M as an incentive for arresting the attackers of the Bulgarian immigrant there, who became a victim of an acid assault just before Christmas last year.

Earlier in the week the Greek Labour Ministry provided Kostadinka Kuneva with an appartment, which she can use free of charge.

Kostadinka Kuneva, who is the Chair of the Federation of Cleaners and Maid-servants in Attica District, became a victim of an acid attack in Athens on December 23. She suffered heavy injuries on her face and body and lost one of her eyes. The perpetrators of the attack are still unknown. It is assumed that the attack is linked to her active work as a trade union leader.

At the beginning of March two rallies - in Sofia and Athens - were held, the protestors demanding that the perpetrators be arrested and brought to justice. They also called on all immigrants in Greece to unite and demand the better observation of labor legislation.

Greek trade unions say they are following closely the case and have urged an extensive and detailed investigation into it.
