Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov has stated that the impeachment of President Georgi Parvanov would not be good for the country at the current time.

Borisov said that he was ready to convene consultations to solve the conflict between several rightist political parties and Parvanov.

According to Borisov a possible impeachment will lead to a negative impact on Bulgaria in Europe. He also added that Parvanov’s position as Head of State is a concrete post as it gives him control over the Constitutional Court.

He concluded however that he will be asking the Iraqi authorities for full documentation regarding Bulgaria's role in the UN Oil for Food program for Iraq.

Borisov had declared Tuesday in Brussels that Bulgaria's ruling party GERB party is going to support the motion of its rightist allies Ataka and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria for the impeachment of Socialist President Parvanov.

On Monday, the rightist party Democrats for Strong Bulgaria of Ivan Kostov demanded that Parvanov be impeached if evidence was found that he was involved in violations by Bulgarian companies in the UN Oil for Food program for Iraq in the late 1990s.

At the same time, the nationalist Ataka party has demanded that Parvanov be impeached over failing to inform the Parliament of all of his actions, as stipulated by Article 14 of the Constitution.

In addition, Parvanov recently angered the ruling rightist majority after refusing to recall Bulgaria’s Ambassadors to the USA and Turkey who have been found to have allowed certain violations during the July 2009 Parliamentary Elections.
