Borisov's Sofia Mayor Candidate Set to Destroy Socialist Opponent

Almost 70% of the eligible voters in the Bulgarian capital are going to vote for Yordanka Fandakova, the candidate of the ruling GERB party of PM Boyko Borisov, in the November 15 Sofia Mayor Elections.

According to a public opinion poll of the Scan sociological agency, current Education Minister Fandakova endorsed by the popular Prime Minister Borisov, has the support of 68,7% of the voters.

Thus, just five days before the Sofia Mayor Elections she is forecast to outvote 5:1 her major competitor, the candidate of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Georgi Kadiev, also known as “the red yuppie”. Kadiev gets the support of 13% of the Sofia residents.

Ivan Antikadzhiev, the candidate of the Union of Free Democrats, a rightist party founded and chaired by former long-time Sofia Mayor, Stefan Sofiyanski, is found to enjoy the support of 1,7% of the voters.

The candidate of the conservative RZS (“Law, Order, Justice”) party, architect Pavel Popov, is set to receive 1,3% of the votes. The expected voter turnout is about 35-40%.

The public opinion poll has found that Bulgarian Prime Minister Borisov enjoys the trust of 70,4% of the Sofia residents. President Georgi Parvanov and Interior Minister Tsvetanov both gather 39%. Foreign Minister Rumiana Jeleva gets 29% of public approval.
