Graffiti artists performed on an art installation symbolizing a part of the Berlin Wall near a former Communist party building in the Bulgarian capital Sofia a day before the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall is celebrated.
The event was part of a series of initiatives, organized by Bulgarian artists, under the title “The Wall 20” and dedicated to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. It has been named “Remnants of the Berlin wall and the communist regime” and draws a bridge to the Berlin festivities.
The initiatives started at the beginning of September to reach their peak on November 9 in the capital Sofia.
Organizers say the aim is to raise Bulgarian society awareness of the dramatic events in 1989, when just a day after the tumbling down of the Berlin wall, the symbol of the Cold War, the communist regime in Bulgaria collapsed.
