A blast thundered on one of the trunk gas pipelines, supplying Russian gas to the Balkans, in southern Moldova Sunday morning, Itar-Tass reported.
One of the three runs piping gas has been damaged.
Firemen, specialists of the Ministry for Emergencies and representatives of the Moldovagaz firm are working at the place of the incident.
Fuel deliveries continue, bypassing the damaged section, along other gas pipelines, Itar-Tass learnt from the officer of the service of civil defence and emergencies Sergei Barbu.
According to Barbu, the explosion took place at 04.30 local time five kilometres away from the village of Saitsy, bordering Ukraine’s Odessa Region.
This is the second blast this year on the Russian gas pipeline, supplying gas to the Balkans via Moldova. The first one took place in the breakaway Dniester republic on April 1, 2009. Wear and tear of pipes was the cause of the incident.
