A US major is under guard at a Texas military base as officials investigate what prompted a shooting attack, whose death toll has risen to 13.

Authorities named Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, as the man who opened fire on soldiers at Fort Hood on Thursday.

It is not clear what motivated him, but reports said the US-born Muslim was unhappy about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.

On Friday police raided his apartment to search for clues, CNN said.

Base commander Lt Gen Bob Cone said that one of the dead was a policeman and the others were soldiers. Thirty other people were injured in the attack.

President Barack Obama described it as "a horrific outburst of violence".

He said: "It is difficult enough when we lose these brave men and women abroad, but it is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on US soil."

The president extended his condolences to the families of the victims, adding: "We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident."

Why isn't there a way to screen these nut jobs before they enter the US military? There should be NO Muslims allowed in the US armed forces. The douche bags are loyal to Islam, not the US. I want this guy to get the death penalty.

One of the most tragic and under—reported occurrences in the West in recent years is the existence of a sharia court in Canada. Muslims are pushing for a sharia divorce courting Australia as well. Having a court of arbitration if it is based on western law and legal theory is legitimate, but sharia does not hold to this standard. Whether sharia is imposed gradually or rapidly, Canada should promptly shut down any sharia court, and Australia should never allow one. Such a court should never be permitted in the US, the rest of the West, or anywhere else in the world that is battling Islam.

The nightmare must end. Sharia oppresses the citizens of Islamic countries. Islam must reform, but the legal hierarchy in Islamic nations will not do this because the judges and legal scholars understand the cost: many passages in the Quran and the hadith must be rejected, and this they cannot do. After all, the Quran came down directly from Allah through Gabriel, so says traditional theology. So how can Islam reform? But reform it must. It can start by rewriting classical fiqh (interpretations of law). Again, though, that would mean leaving behind the Quran and Muhammad's example. How can the legal hierarchy in Islamic nations do this?

Since Islamic law cannot be reformed without doing serious damage to original and authentic Islam—the one taught by Muhammad—then a second plan must be played out. Sharia must never spread around the world. At least that much is clear and achievable.

As if any of that Sharia Law has anything to do with the Koran anyway.
It's all just political the fundamentalists themselves are doing this for their own political ends. Saudi Arabia and Iran are dragging their countries behind with this innovotive traditionalism that doesn't really have anything to do any Islamic tradition. It is just totalitarism and nothing else.

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
