The President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, has called upon Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko to avert any delays in his country’s payment for Russian gas supplies.

Barroso’s warning aimed at preventing a new gas crisis between Russia and the Ukraine like the one in January 2009 comes a day after the Ukrainian state company Naftogaz said it was facing financial difficulties.

The EC President has warned Yushchenko over the phone, a Commission spokesperson announced as quoted by BGNES. Barroso is concerned that the IMF program for financial aid for Ukraine might fail to be realize which could affect the economic stability of the country.

The EU is not responsible for looking after Ukraine and its problems.

Ukraine will have to solve this on their own. Ukraine has a very very poor image abroad due to the recent gas crisis which affected many EU homes including Romania's - we were very angry matter of fact Mr Basescu was the first to publicly speak out and blame Ukraine for not finding the money and sorting their finances in order in time of the deadline.

Ukraine is on the verge of default, it is a country that is collapsing socially, very much economically and politically on some areas.

Ukraine has poor relations with Romania an EU and NATO Member. When will Ukraine learn to treat its Neighbors with more respect and dignity? One day I hope Ukraine will grow up and learn not to push away its Neighbors they need most.

Romania has been advocating Ukraine's membership in the EU (more than likely it will never join) and NATO membership, but Ukraine's response is to have poor relations with Romania and make it worse for themselves.

Ukraine has had some poor episodes with Bulgaria lately, Novinite has documented such cases.

Most of Ukraine is hated so deeply and often with increasing threats and an emerging hostility towards Ukraine by Russia. I have no opinion about this issue as I do not know enough about the facts of such hate towards Ukraine by Russia.

The rumors of Russia's next target will be Ukraine within years slowly starts emerging as a new reality for the new decade. There is obvious signs through the rhetoric and words that fly between the Kremlin and Ukraine - it certainly looks like small signs of 'war talk'.

One more thing, Ukraine cannot ask the EU for help if Russia and Ukraine do have a war. The EU can stay the hell away from it. The war may be on EU Borders we would only intervene if the war spilt onto EU Borders, god I hope very much that will not happen and the war will stay in between Russian and Ukrainian borders.

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
