EU Report Shows Decrease in Bulgaria Drug Law Offences: EU Report Shows Decrease in Bulgaria Drug Law Offences

The EU's main drugs watchdog stated that Bulgaria was one of only 6 EU countries to report a decrease in drug law offences.

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) added that; “Between 2002 and 2007, the number of drug law offences related to use increased in most reporting countries, with only Bulgaria, Greece, the Netherlands and Slovenia reporting a decline across the period.”

Bulgaria also reported a downward trend in the number of legal offenses related to cannabis and cocaine unlike most other EU countries.

EMCDDA also noted the significant work of the Bulgarian authorities in helping to seize 0.6 tonnes of ephedrine, more than twice the amount seized in 2006.

Elsewhere in the report the watchdog noted that Bulgaria does not provide enough outpatient and inpatient treatment for drug addicts.
