Bulgaria PM, Boyko Borisov has stated that a Parliamentary vote of confidence might be held on the National State Security Agency (DANS).

Borisov speaking in Parliament on Thursday, added that “I don’t need DANS to support the government or our party... It is time for the former members of DANS to retire and create a party to compete in the next elections.” He was referring to DANS supporting the previous socialist run government, whose leader former PM Sergey Stanishev set up the Agency.

Borisov added that “we give DANS lots of money – of that BGN 96 M, 92 % went to serious wages. There have only been scandals there [in DANS] in th three month period since I came to office.....We will see how many cases are bought after the Chief Prosecutor has studied all the files he has been handed.”

His statement comes a day after it was announced that the Prosecutor’s Office will work on two cases against ex PM Stanishev – one regarding the disappearance of 8 National State Security Agency (DANS) documents which entered the Council of Ministers, but were never returned to the DANS. If found guilty this crime of recklessness has a 2 year jail sentence attached.

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
