Bulgaria's Health Ministry has reported the fifth swine flu death in the country.
The ministry says a 30-year-old male swine flue patient died in the southwestern town of Petrich. This was the fifth reported death from swine flu in Bulgaria. The first fatality occurred at the beginning of October.
More than 130 people per every 10,000 have tested positive for swine flu in Bulgaria, the rate necessary for declaring a nation-wide epidemic emergency being 200 per 10,000.
The number of infections is still comparable to the epidemics from 2007 and 2008, but this is the first time that fatalities are recorded.
All of the patients have died after the swine flu virus brought complications to another disease they already had.
Swine flu epidemic emergency has so far been declared in twelve regions across the country.
