The project for the construction of a second bridge between Bulgaria and Romania over the Danube is in a critical condition.

This has been stated Tuesday by Bulgaria’s Transport Minister, Alexander Tsvetkov, who also said a huge delay of 12-14 months in the realization of the project had been caused by mismanagement and lack of coordination between Bulgaria and Romania.

“Over the last 3 months we met at least 15 times with the executers of the project (the Spanish firm FCC – editor’s note) because they have too many demands. However, not all of those demands will be met,” Tsvetkov said.

According to the Minister, his team has identified measures for speeding up the project, and has actually managed to save 3-4 months.

“The projects necessitates swift action because it is funded under the ISPA program of the EU which expires at the end of 2010. Tsvetkov also announced new understanding had been achieved with Romania.
