In the eve of the Monday renewed trial of Serbian Drug Lord, Streten Josic, Serbian media are reminding that Bulgaria’s PM, Boyko Borisov, is a witness in the case.
The Serbian daily “Press” claims Prime Minister Borisov could be called on the witness stand over Josic’s statements that Borisov provided protection for him at the time he was the Bulgarian Interior Ministry Chief Secretary.
In the beginning of April, Josic made headlines in Bulgaria, telling a Belgrade court he enjoyed the protection of high-ranking officials, citing the names of then Interior Chief Secretary Borisov, who was later elected Sofia Mayor, and PM in 2009, and Nikolay Gigov, owner of Lokomotiv Sofia football club.
“Press” are saying that when asked about Borisov’s testimony, the Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade told them they were not aware of the PM appearing at the trial. The spokesperson of the Belgrade District Court also failed to confirm information about Borisov’s coming to Serbia for the trial, adding more will be known Monday.
Borisov firmly denies the allegations and insists that he was personally involved in Josic' arrest in 2002 in downtown Sofia.
