Bulgaria has lost the last 20 years of its history because of the descendants of the former Communist Party, i.e. the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

This is the view of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, who is the leader of the ruling center-right GERB party.

“I can’t stop laughing at those who say that GERB is a totalitarian party. Which was the party that carried out terrorist attacks in churches, and put people in concentration camps? It is a mistake that a Communist Party which killed people has not been banned. Those who killed my grandfather now want a new read of history,” Borisov said in an interview for Nova TV shortly before the emergency congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party reelected former Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev as Party Chair Sunday night.

“The former government knew that we had a decline of the GDP of 6%, and kept lying that we would have a growth of 4,6% in 2009. They lied to the French that we will buy corvettes from them, and to the Russians that we will built the Belene Nuclear Plant,” Borisov declared regarding the government of Sergey Stanishev and the three-way coalition (2005-2009).

“We love the people and we do everything in their best interest, and people everywhere in Europe love us. Both Sarkozy and Berlusconi have had understanding for us because of the heritage of the former government. What the three-way coalition left behind is a crime,” the Prime Minister said regarding the government of his GERB party adding that former Ministers such as Petar Mutafchiev (Transport) and Asen Gagauzov (Regional Development) made their subordinates sign instead of them orders that committed violations in order to remain clean.

Borisov also said his predecessor Stanishev had set up the State National Security Agency DANS in order to counterbalance the Interior Ministry and the influence of his intra-party rival, former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov.

The Prime Minister also said that the Belene Nuclear Power Plant would be built only if sufficient funding could be secured from outside sources.

“We would be apprehensive if we have to build the Belene NPP with Russian money and with Russian companies. Sarkozy said to me, “Why haven’t you talked to us?” Now over BGN 1 B have been wasted on Belene so far,” the PM said.

The Prime Minister also vowed to have the Trakiya Highway and the second line of the Sofia Metro ready by mid 2012.

“When I became the Mayor of Sofia, there were difficulties the first two years. Now everything is working out. I am going to get the country out of the crisis in exactly two years the very same way,” Borisov declared.
