Bulgaria is one of more than 100 countries around the world where Amazon has announced that it will now be selling a new version of its Kindle e-book reader, that can wirelessly download books.

The new kindle is almost identical to the existing model, it features a 6 inch display, and has 2GB of memory which can hold up to 1,500 books.

The new, international Kindle model will launch on October 19 and sell for USD 279. The price of Amazon’s domestic-only Kindle, which used to sell for USD 299, has been reduced to USD 259.

"We have millions of customers in countries all over the world who read English-language books," Amazon.com Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement. "Kindle enables these customers to think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds."

Kindle can be used in Bulgaria via free of charge access to 3G network, which does not involve monthly fees, contracts or locations with Wi-Fi Internet connection. EDGE/GPRS coverage can also be used.

The Seattle-based e-tailer said international customers will have access to about 220,000 book titles at its Kindle Store compared with the 350,000 titles available to U.S. customers. Publishers involved with the store include Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Lonely Planet, Harlequin, Penguin, Bloomsbury, and Hachette.
