The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office is initiating preliminary legal proceedings against four football clubs over tax evasion.

The information was revealed Monday by the Deputy Sofia Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, who said the National Revenue Agency (NRA) probe showed evidence of tax evasion.

In addition, NRA is conducting checkups of the real income of football players and the declared taxable income, Vasilev reported, adding the collected data will be sent to the respective Regional Prosecutor's Office for analysis.

The Deputy Prosecutor declined offering details about exact amounts and naming the clubs involved in the fraud.

It was reported however, that the NRA probe established that 8 clubs owe over BGN 8 M, with the biggest debtor being the CSKA club.
