The special task force police team in Bulgaria's southern city of Sliven arrested notorious criminal Vassil Kachikov aka Kachika.
The 30-year-old Kachikov was detained Wednesday around noon along with an accomplice, 21-year-old A.B., also known to the police.
The two are accused of racketeering a local man and issuing threats to him and his family over an alleged loan Kachika has given the man and a following dispute about the principal and the interest.
The police also raided the residencies of the two suspects and confiscated a Mercedes automobile.
Kachika's name came up as early as 2003 in connection with the high-profile murder of Bulgarian gangster, Konstantin Dimitrov, a.k.a. Samokovetsa, who was shot dead in Amsterdam.
A Dutch witness, who is serving 15 behind bars in the Netherlands for the murder, claims that Kachika has been the physical perpetrator of the crime.
In 2004 Kachika was extradited from Nice, France where he resided under false identity. Two years later, he was sentenced to 7 years jail time in Bulgaria for enticing two girls to prostitution, but served only 4 of them and was let go free for good behavior.
Kachika has also been charged with the murder of the Sliven pimp, Todor Minov aka Tsiganina (the Roma), but was found not guilty by the court.
Kachika is currently charged with extortion and is held, along with his accomplice, behind bar for 72 hours before facing a judge. It is expected the Prosecutor will request permanent detention.
Konstantin Dimitrov - Samokovetsa was allegedly involved in large-scale contraband and drug trafficking and trading. He was notorious for claiming that he had earned his money by growing potatoes in his native town of Samokov.
