Russia Urges Diplomacy Amid Middle East Tensions, Avoids Condemning Iran
Russia has called for restraint from all parties involved following Iran's recent drone and missile attack on Israel
US President, Barack Obama, will meet Middle East leaders in New York on Tuesday, the White House press center informs.
The President's next attempt to re-launch peace talks will take place in New York, within the frame of the UN General Assembly.
Obama will hold separate talks with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, before a joint meeting of all sides.
The meeting comes on the heels of the failed efforts of US Envoy, George Mitchell, which ended without agreement. The peace process in the region has been strained by disagreements over Israeli settlements.
Last week Mitchell met with both Netanyahu and Abbas, but could not achieve consensus between them, something the US administration was hoping to accomplish before the UN General Assembly.
Abbas and the US demand a complete freeze on Israeli construction activity. Netanyahu previously offered a temporary freeze for several months, but not in East Jerusalem or in cases where homes have already been approved.
On Saturday, both sides continued blaming each other for the lack of agreement and Mitchell's "empty hands" return to the US.
