Bulgaria Muslims Pay Respect to Hair of Mohammed's Beard
Hundreds of Muslims from Southern Bulgaria paid Wednesday respect to a hair of Prophet Mohammed's beard in the city of Kardzhali.
The hair is the only one in Bulgaria, and is kept at the mosque in Kardzhali where it was brought from the northwest Bulgarian city of Vidin 130 years ago.
The hair is shown only once a year during the celebrating of Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power. The mufti of Kardzhali showed the special box with the hair inside to every one of the people who had come to the mosque; they are only allowed to touch briefly the box.
Next week marks the pinnacle of celebrations for the Holy Month of Ramadan for the Muslims in Bulgaria and around the world.
