The Deputy Mayor of Dolna Mitropoliya in North-West Bulgaria, Bahri Berker, has been arrested after an international arrest warrant was passed to Bulgarian police.
Berker was arrested for massive tax evasion and unpaid insurance, offenses he made while the owner of a construction company in Germany 2003-4.
The arrest was announced by the Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, in a press conference after the International Conference on Security meeting in Sofia. Tsvetanov added that his Ministry would do "everything possible to catch those who do not pay taxes and insurance."
Berker allegedly failed to pay EUR 500 000 in taxes for his Frankfurt based building company. He also allegedly failed to pay EUR 1,3 M worth of insurances.
Meanwhile, Tsvetanov stated that any changes in the structure of the State National Security Agency (DANS) and the Interior Ministry will be announced next Wednesday.
