Bulgaria has pledged to bring to justice those guilty for the tragic sinking of a Macedonian boat in the Lake Ohrid on Saturday that claimed the lives of fifteen Bulgarians, a government official said.
"Bulgarian legislation obliges us to launch our own probe, parallel to the one conducted by Macedonian officialСЃ. We have already done this and this is why Bulgarian investigators are already working at the scene of the tragedy," Deputy Foreign Minister Marin Raykov told Darik Radio on Monday morning.
The Ilinden sank rapidly in just six meters (20 feet) of water, about 200 meters (650 feet) from the shore on Saturday in the worst boat accident ever to happen on Ohrid Lake, on Macedonia's western border with Albania.
Fifteen people died, while another forty survived the accident.
Macedonian authorities have already detained the skipper of the sightseeing boat on suspicion of causing the deaths of the Bulgarian tourists.
