A scandal has broken out between prostitutes and police in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, after allegations of sexual and physical abuse.

The prostitutes, who apply there trade on Boulevard ‘Skobeleva Maika' in Plovdiv, have rebelled against what they say is constant sexual and physical abuse by police officers and have held a public protest on Tuesday.

Tania, one of the prostitutes, alleged that one policeman, Tanio Avramov, systematically beats and terrorizes her and her colleagues, with many of them having the scars to prove it. Avramov denied the allegations and said the inspection will show his innocence.

Angel Rangelov, the Director of the local police department, stated that an investigation is currently being held into the matter and the results of it will be released to the public. The prostitutes alleged that the police used their sexual services for free.
