The Bulgarian Minister of Transport, IT and Communication, Alexander Tsvetkov, has stated that all EU road projects will be controlled by his Ministry.
Tsvetkov stated Sunday that Road projects under the EU Operational Program "Transport" will remain under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and that it will be the governing body and will monitor all the sites, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
Tsvetkov added that only about 1% of the money available from the Program was absorbed successfully by the previous Bulgarian government. He said that the situation with the Bulgarian railways is critical due to lack of funding and high expenses.
Regarding the scandalous deal for the sale of Turgovishte airport, which was sold to a 20-year-old man from Dobrich a few years ago at an "amazingly low price," Tsvetkov said his Ministry team is investigating and that the Airport has not been used properly for 10 years. He concluded that "there are many facts that are disturbing to the transaction."
He stated that if irregularities are found the case will be passed over to the Prosecutor's office along with the previous government' deal for the purchasing of two Airbus A319 jets, which Tsvetkov informed the prosecutor's office of on August 10.
