A new ferry line will link Romania's Turnu Magurele and Bulgaria's Nikopol starting in October, it was revealed Monday.

The ferry line will begin to operate after the completion of a 10 km section of road, Nikopol Mayor Valery Zhelazkov was quoted as saying by Bulgaria's BTA news agency.

"We are ready to launch the ferry once the Nikopol-Pleven road has been completed," he said.

Two ferryboats will make 12 round-trips daily, carrying up to six heavy and 30 light vehicles, with each crossing lasting up to ten minutes.

The project will have cost EUR 5 M upon its completion, romaniantimes.at reported.

Contracts for construction of the new ferry complex were signed by Bulgaria and Romania in 2004, and work began a year later but encountered several delays.

There are three ferry lines between the two countries: Vidin-Calafat, Silistra-Calarasi and Oriahovo-Bechet. Another line may eventually provide a service between Lom and Rastu.

The two countries are connected by the Ruse-Giurgiu bridge, and a second bridge, Vidin-Calafat, should be completed in 2010.

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
