The Bulgarian Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, has stated that the main problem the government faces is inherited bad Ministerial practices not the budget deficit.
"The problem is not this big hole in the budget, but instead the bad practices inherited from the previous government in all ministries... including the advertising of public contracts that only benefited certain companies," Tsvetanov said in an interview for ‘Tazi Sutrin' on bTV.
"The inherited problems are very serious indeed," Tsvetanov continued. He added that that there are a number of key priorities to be outlined in the upcoming months and years.
He said that one of them is a national policy for Schengen. Another problem Tzvetanov indicated was a complete lack of procedure for the issuing of biometric identification documents.
Tsvetanov continued that he has been left in a situation by the previous government where he is not able to meet the expectations of the Bulgarian police. He added that he has been assured by the Finance Minister that there is however the opportunity to align portions of the Bulgarian police force with the Ministry of Defense.
Tsvetanov concluded: "I have the full support of the Prime Minister in making a commitment to the general security and public order of the country." He added that it is not important what happens after 2-3 months, but instead the commitment made to the country over a year or two in order to make reforms to match the needs of Bulgarian society.
