22 400 Bulgarian employees have been sacked since the beginning of 2009 over the negative effects of the economic crisis on business.
A total of 324 companies have filed application in the regional Labor Bureaus, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Totyu Mladenov, said Thursday.
The biggest number of lay-offs is in the machine-building industry - 6 974, followed by the metallurgy (3 620), the textile industry (3 000), the electricity industry (1 388), and telecommunications (1 300).
In Mladenov's words, the biggest challenge for him and the social partners is taking measures for limiting the unemployment. The funds for active policy on the labor market, and for the people with disabilities, have already been spent, he added.

He also said that there would be a complete analysis of the measures which the government had taken regarding the labor market. The effect of the money granted by the government (BGN 187 M) for 2009 is very unclear, Mladenov commented.
