Borislav Atanasov, the owner of a Sofia building firm, has been kidnapped from the Simeonovo quarter of the Bulgarian capital.

33-year-old Atanasov was taken by four masked men late Thursday night and was bundled into the trunk of a Mercedes jeep. Atanasov's wife reported the incident as she had been a witness to the kidnapping. She is now being treated for shock.

Atanasov is the owner of the building company AKB Properties. He was kidnapped from in front of his home, in an area that is protected by a private security firm, Darik Radio reported.

According to the Interior Minisrty Atanasov himself has a criminal record for theft and has been banned from leaving the country. One of his business partners, Aleksander Torbov, has been linked to cocaine trafficking from Latiin America and to credit card fraud in Germany.
