Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov has stated that he expected that the new Bulgarian government led by Sofia Mayor's party GERB would serve its full mandate.

In his first interview since Sunday's general elections Parvanov told journalists that "GERB's election victory was impressive and will secure stability in Bulgaria."

Parvanov added that although the pre-election party campaigns were negative and over aggressive, the elections themselves were democratic, He said that "the voters had chosen a clear party who will have full responsibility for getting the country through the global financial crisis."

Parvanov continued that the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) loss was heavy and showed a lack of confidence in the previous government.

He concluded that one of the most important first things that the new government will have to do is to deal successfully with the new energy projects in the country."
