The Mayor of Sofia and informal leader of the GERB party, winner of the general elections, Boyko Borisov, stated Sunday evening he was going to assume full responsibility for Bulgaria.
Borisov spoke in an exclusive interview for the Bulgarian channel bTV just less than an hour before his appearance at the National Palace of Culture in downtown Sofia where party leaders are to give official press conferences.
The Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party won in a landslide victory Sunday with about 40% of the vote.
Borisov further promised a very quick Cabinet appointment, saying he would let his experts celebrated only Sunday night, but will call them back to work Monday.
In addition, Sofia's Mayor promised that he would inaugurate the connection of the two segments of the city's metro Monday - between the Sheraton hotel and the National "Vasil Levski" stadium, something scores of Sofia residents have anticipated for a long time.
Borisov further spoke about his certainty GERB would win the elections convincingly, with a much better results than the up to 30% predicted by pollsters, because he had his own "sociology" - the people, who always demonstrated their love and enthusiasm for change.
When asked about possible Coalition with other opposition parties winning parliamentary seats, Borisov said he would wait for the official results and invite all of their leaders for talks, but did not commit to anything definitive, reiterating he would assume responsibility for Bulgaria' rule in times of financial crisis.
Borisov appealed to political forces in Bulgaria to stop playing the ethnic card, vowed to punish all that have been involved in embezzlement of EU funds and other crimes, and expressed hope the defeated Bulgarian Socialist Party and ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms would not try to create obstacles and discredit his future rule.
