Bulgaria's court is expected to deliver its final verdict in the trial against the notorious former head of Sofia's heating utility, who is accused of embezzlement and causing losses to the company.
The prosecution requested on Wednesday a 15-year jail sentence for Valentin Dimitrov as well as a garnish of his entire assets along with the assets of another defendant, Lina Albanska, owner of the "Shibar" company.
Another former "Toplofikazia" Director, Georgi Rogachev, Dimitrov's assistant Emil Antonov, Maya Stoilova and Lina Albanska have been charged, along with Dimitrov, with embezzling nearly BGN 6 M.
The prosecution further asked the confiscation of certain assets of Rogachev, Antonov and Stoilova and jail time sentences.
Bulgaria's Penalty Code provides for 10 to 20 years behind bars for similar crimes.
According to prosecutors, Valentin Dimitrov together with managers Georgi Rogachev, Lila Ablanska, Maya Stoilova and Emil Antonov, caused losses to the company by buying luxury goods and spending company money on holidays. Dimitrov even installed a Jacuzzi in his office despite the troubled financial condition of the state owned company.
Dimitrov has repeatedly denied the charges against him.
Over one year ago, Dimitrov was sentenced to five years in jail, but was later released on bail.
He was arrested after the heating utility had to file for bankruptcy in 2005.
