The former Mayor of Velingrad and MP from the ethnic Turkish party, Fidel Beev, is already in prison just a day after Sofia City Court delivered a ruling to this effect.

Beev has been moved from the Military Hospital in Sofia to the hospital of the prison following a cardiac emergency.

The Mayor and Member of Bulgaria's 40th General Assembly from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) is charged with abuse of power and conflict of interests over supplying fuels to Velingrad municipal companies from his own business.

The Court motivated their rule to change the house arrest and BGN 1000 bail to permanent detention with Beev's court behavior demonstrating attempts to prolongue the trial.

The magistrates reminded that the trial has been postponed three times since April 8 - twice over Beev's health condition and one time over his attorney's illness.
